Headache is a common sign of numerous health problems like high blood pressure, sinus and migraine. Headaches typically fall into two categories, namely: simple common headache and the more complicated headache. Some of the causes of simple common headaches include tiredness, stress (at work or relationships) and being overworked. Here are some tips that will help you get rid of both simple and severe headaches.

Medicines
These simple common headaches can be managed with simple painkillers, for examples paracetamol and aspirin. However, these medications should be taken by individuals who are not allergic to them.

Taking a Nap
Sometimes, the headache may result from lack of sleep because of the extra strain on your eyes during the day. In this situation, it is advisable to take a nap to fight it off. You will feel more refreshed with no sign of pain when you wake up.
It is also advisable to have a proper sleep schedule to get rid of cluster headaches. If your regular sleeping pattern changes, cluster periods are also likely to occur.

Drink Plenty of Water
Severe dehydration may also cause a simple headache. The headache can occur even if you do not feel thirsty. Therefore, if you experience any mild or severe headache, it is advisable to drink one or two glasses of water. If you do not like drinking water, the best way to ensure that you do not feel thirsty throughout the day is to keep a bottle of water with you and take small sips. The headache will go away if your body is properly dehydrated.

Apply a Cold Compress
Make an ice pack by using a piece of cloth and apply it on your forehead. This should be done immediately you start feeling the earliest signs if a headache. A frozen bag of vegetable can also be used. This technique helps to get rid of the pain by shrinking the enlarged blood vessel, increasing the rate of blood flow and by lowering the temperature. Applying a cold compress is the perfect way of getting rid of headaches caused by humidity and hot weather condition.

Applying Heat
If you want to get rid of a headache caused by tension and stress, just apply a hot pad on the back of the head. The heat from the hot pad reduces the headache by lowering the tension in the muscles of that area.

Relaxation Techniques
Some relaxation techniques such as rhythmic breathing, deep breathing, and visualized breathing can assist to reduce headache caused by stress. Lying down on a bed while the lights have been switched off is also an effective technique of getting rid of the headache.

How to Get Rid of Complicated/ Severe Headaches
If the headaches become regular, repeated and have other categories like making you feel sleepy, visual impairment you need to consult your doctor as soon as possible. These are not the type of headache that should be self-medicated, especially if the headache is sudden and very severe.
