Drug Free Mental Health

Drug free mental health often comes from sources we would never think it could. As an anxiety sufferer getting increased heart rates that top 130, it was paramount for me to find ways in which I could manage my anxiety to prevent heart involvement without the use of any pharmaceuticals. I had adverse reactions to 2 types of drugs for mental health so for me, drug free mental health had to be the way to go. Here are a few of the alternative strategies for mental health that I fit into my lifestyle daily. Without doing these things, my mental health suffers.

Bird Therapy

The sound of chirping birds does a lot for my mental health. In fact, when it’s mating season for birds, I get out early in the morning, usually around 5:00 am for a technology free walk or run with the birds. I leave that excursion feeling mentally restored and ready to tackle my day with effective and sharp decisions.

Pet Therapy

If you don’t have a pet or two and you have issues with mental health, my suggestion is to find a pet that would fit well in your life. Once you have the pet, whether it be dog, cat, bird or any other animal, make time to connect with it daily. Intentional interaction with your pet will create a bond between you both and generate a feeling of unity, belonging and wellbeing that you can’t get from any other relationship.

Aerobics

I make aerobics part of my weekly routine. Without it, my mental health seems to suffer. It’s important to find an aerobic exercise that fits well in your life if you want it to be something you stick to. As someone with anxiety, my exercise is imperative to calm my stress level and therefore my racing thoughts. For me running and rope jumping do the trick, but it’s all about what works for you individually.

Supplements

Supplementation is another aspect of managing a drug free mental health regimen that I could not be without. Particularly regarding B vitamins and digestive enzymes. B vitamins are an inherent aspect of a healthy neurological system for the type of good mental health that will help you live a life of contentment that creates a feeling of connection with others and the world. Digestive enzymes are a great way to ensure that you are breaking down and absorbing the nutrients from the food you eat. In this way, you’ll be doing everything you can to nourish your neurological system for better mental health.
